Hi, I’m Ryan from Administrate. Now if you’ve read the title of this video, I know what you’re thinking, “Here comes another marketer to tell me why social media is going to be the go-to thing to grow my business and make everything wonderful in my life.” And you’re 100% right if you think that this is one of those videos, because it is!
But here’s the thing, you still clicked this video, so there must be at least a little part of you that thinks that social media is the answer. And I’m going to tell you why you’re right to think that.
Over the last year, there’s been one big change in social media. You’ve probably noticed it. Or even if you haven’t, that in many ways says it’s doing its job really well. I’m talking, of course, about the rise of video content. If you’ve checked your Facebook, your Twitter, your Instagram, you’ll have seen more and more of these videos in your feed. Some of it’s about cooking, some of it’s cats, some of it’s dogs, but there’s a definite gap in the market for people who are producing professional content which actually engages with their audience. What I’m talking about is going beyond likes and shares and actually giving you something which is going to help sell training online, and you can engage with your students.
So, let’s look through some of the reasons why that works. First of all, let’s look at videos. 55% of social media users will watch a branded video online, a branded video being a commercially produced production. That being a video which has be it a logo in the corner, or be it that it’s clearly sponsored, we know where it’s from. 76% of those viewers will then visit the website of that video. Now, that can be an incredibly powerful tool and can really help sell more training online. In fact, with Administrate’s integrations, you could even be tracking that through the sales opportunities system while you’re online.
80% of your viewers can also recall a video after 30 days, which means that not only has your marketing efforts got a continued output but it also means that from the training side that your students can be remembering this content, and actually engaging with it. Considering that in a lecture, almost 4 in 5 students will have forgotten the content an hour after they’ve left the lecture, this can be a fantastic tool as a quick memory jogger and help them move forward.
So, if it’s such a wonderful thing, what’s holding you back? Right? First of all, it tends to be about, what do I actually want to say. And that’s perfectly natural. You know I can tell you from personal experience that I stand in front of a camera, and more often than not, I don’t know what I’m going to say. That’s alright though, because 82% of shoppers and consumers online are now looking for something called UGC, which is user generated content. That is, they’re looking for something a bit natural, something where the camera wobbles a little, the presenter stumbles over their line, they want it to be genuine. And that can be vital for you being able to sell your training online and present it as something that you want to actually engage with.
Secondly, you’ve then got to find the person who’s actually going to say it. Maybe that’s you. Maybe that’s someone who is uncomfortable in the limelight, someone who doesn’t want to put themselves in front of the camera. Again, that can be okay. All you have to do, book 30 minutes aside, set the camera up and talk. Who knows, maybe within that you’ll get 90 seconds of content that you actually want to use. And that’s actually ideal. Let me tell you why
After 2 minutes you’ll find that 60% of your viewers will drop off, so you don’t have to worry about that 30 minute Spielberg production, not at all. All you need is 2 minutes of solid content, nothing more. And speaking of Spielberg content, you also want to worry about how your video looks. Now, people again are expecting these professional production values but really you don’t need them. Remember there are YouTube stars who have made millions of dollars out of having a webcam on a PC and talking and ranting about anything. You can do it with a smartphone and be a hit in no time. It’s not a problem!
